State of the City – W’s Edition

Win win win, no matter what

NYCFC has won 4 out of 5 matches in style as well as execution. Thanks to the addition of newcomer and No. 9 Heber Dos Arajos, our team has started to maximize on their strengths, to give the opposition no room to exploit our weaknesses.

Winning against Western Conference Contender LA Galaxy has been great, as we have now have 3 straight W’s away, which has not happened since Inaugural Season.

The 3 – 4 – 3 Explained

Our tactics greatly improved with the use of the 3 – 4 – 3 System. While Dome’s favorite position is 4 – 3 – 3, its a formation that works very well with the quality of players NYCFC has, as well as allow for players to focus on their strengths.

NYCFC v LA Galaxy

With Matarrita and Tinnerholm working from Fullbacks to Wingbacks, the formation ends up looking a 3 – 2 – 5. It messes up the opposition defenders and also allows for NYCFC to find through the channel and pass the ball for Heber, who has netted some clinical goals so far with NYCFC.

Matarrita and Tinnerholm have benefited from this the most, as well as Alex Ring, who can freely stop the opposition and allow for spaces for the Centrebacks to defend, if need be.

Maxi Moralez can also fully be the No. 10 he was meant to be, allow to create the opportunities and set up for the wingers (Taty/Ismael/Mitrita) to move through and cut through defenders. The real test would see Mitrita in this position, fully healthy and see his movement in this system.

This system would only work with open communication on the lines and with the right quality of players. Such a plan last year would not have worked, but this is also something that may have been planned from the beginning from Coach Dome Torrent.

Next week NYCFC fights again not-so-great Chicago Fire. Analysis will be given on Tuesday in a City Vs Article.
